The Dollar General Literacy Foundation was established in 1993 by Cal Turner and Cal Turner Jr. to honor Dollar General’s co-founder, JL. Turner, who was a farmer’s son with only a third-grade education. Dollar General is proud to continue his legacy by supporting students along their educational journey. Our commitment to supporting literacy and education programs remains strong and unwavering. We commit to investing in and collaborating with local literacy providers and national partners to advance teacher and student success.

Our food storage site is located at All Saints Episcopal Church on South Main Street in Wolfeboro, NH. We serve preschool through Grade 6 students providing weekend meals all year round in the towns of Brookfield, Effingham, Middleton, New Durham, Ossipee, Tuftonboro, and Wolfeboro.
Transportation of food to each school or daycare site is provided with the help of the Governor Wentworth Regional School District Bus System.
Kendal and Anna Ham had long decided that their estates should support their charitable intentions. Kendal had previously taken care of his family through other estate planning means, and as the Hams had no children together, they focused their philanthropic goals on choosing which charities they would support. They planned on leaving their estates to several of the large, national charities focusing on human services.
After Kendal’s death in 1988 and through the efforts of her legal counsel, Anna began to refocus the couple’s philanthropic goals. She came to understand that rather than supporting the large, national charities and hoping they would be able to respond to local needs, her wealth would enable supporting local needs by creating a community based charitable organization. Anna began to re-evaluate what she and her late husband held most dear. They had lived for many years in Conway, New Hampshire and had a lakeside summer cottage on Moose Pond in Bridgton, Maine. These communities were welcoming and important places to the Hams, and Anna decided that they should be the primary focus of their philanthropic efforts.
Caring is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to support the organizations and projects that help make our communities better places for all of us to live and work. Our exceptional employees donate thousands of hours to nonprofits in their neighborhoods each year and we’re proud to support their efforts.
The Tamworth Foundation is a community foundation serving the Town of Tamworth by supporting local nonprofits in the areas of health, civic and community responsibility, education, arts and culture, local infrastructure, recreation and safety.
Since 1937, The Tamworth Foundation has helped Tamworth fulfill its needs and create new projects that benefit the community, relying solely on the contributions of our donors. Our grants touch virtually all aspects of life in Tamworth. The Tamworth Foundation was formed in 1937 by a group of Tamworth citizens to protect and support the town they loved. Their model was Sandwich’s Quimby Fund. More than eighty-five years later TTF continues supporting and enhancing the quality of life in Tamworth by managing funds for general and specific purposes, making grants to local nonprofit groups for projects that contribute to its mission, and by underwriting special projects that will benefit the town.
We support our youth, our elderly, community and medical services, the arts, the town’s infrastructure, and many special projects. In making decisions, we strive to allocate funds where we feel they will provide the greatest present and future good for all Tamworth residents. We strive to bring awareness and care to all that we do, so that our grants and projects genuinely contribute to the quality of life in Tamworth. We are here to help where there is need.
